Finally, we get to read the most anticipated love story of the Westmoreland family series, that of Bane and Crystal. It was well worth the wait! These two characters were deeply and obsessively in love with each other. They first met as teenager, Crystal 15 and Bane 19. He was the hotheaded, badass kid and she was the shy, smart girl with no friends. Their connection to one another was instant and overwhelming. He was her protector from the beginning and they became best friends for life. Their love couldn’t be understood by their families thus leading to an intervention to separate them. Hence the love story of girl meets boy, boy wants to protect her at all cost and fighting anyone or anything in their young life that tries to stop them. Well, they were in for the fight of their life – LIFE!I won’t giveaway details, but this story is written with each main character being developed so that you get to know them well passed what we have read in previous snippets from the other Westmoreland books. Now, if you have read a Brenda Jackson novel, you know you will definitely be rewarded with tender moments of love and affection, family tides, people in danger and needing protection, memorable love scenes, bonding friendship and at least a couple of surprises that make her books enjoyable to read. Hold on to you heart with this read, it’s grabs at you from the moment you realized Crystal and Bane are very well connected in many ways we were hoping they would be. After 5 years apart, these two had a lot of making up to do and they do! Page by page, they learned once again what made them so special to each other when they had discovered their young love. Bane left once but he won’t this time, not without the love of his life – Crystal in tow.
Mrs. Jackson did a wonderful job of webbing love, disappointment, grief, friendship, danger, strong bonds, longing from distance and time, reconnecting storyline from previous family members and a powerful young relationship into an gentle, pleasant and compassionate reunion. This is supposed to be the end of the Westmoreland but I highly doubt it.
Great read for me, I love it from the prologue to the end for a HEA (happily ever after) conclusion.
FYI, if you want to start at this book you can but if you want to understand how deep the love between Bane and Crystal goes, way beyond what’s here in this story, please read One Winter’s Night.

Bane The Westmorelands Book 2413 edition by Brenda Jackson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I have read all of the Westmoreland books and we are finally at the end with Bane's book. I have eagerly been waiting for his happy ending and we definitely got that. One reason his story is key is that he and his wife Crystal have been mentioned in several of the other Westmoreland books so naturally it makes one curious if they get to be together. I like that there was some suspense regarding Crystal because it added to the complexity of the story. More importantly, this book made you feel their love. That's one thing I can say about Brenda Jackson...she writes books with characters that make you believe in their love and love period. Bane and Crystal were meant to be, ride or die and the book shows that. I really enjoyed it and hated when I got to the last page. Although I have a feeling that there will be some Outlaw books written (hoping). Kudos to Mrs. Jackson...another well-written, emotional book!
I like this author. But this particular story? Not so much. Secret marriage, ok. Long time apart, ok. BUT half a decade apart with no words spoken at all between the hero and heroine, and everything being just peachy after a few days? No. I just couldn't suspend my belief that much. The hero made an autocratic decision, for his young wife's "own good" (of course) to leave her completely alone- meaning no contact whatsoever- until he and she "grew up." (Lord save me from people who do things for "my own good.") Turns out five years goes by, his navy career takes off, she goes to school, etc. Yes, school and work are important and necessary things. BUT- and this may come as a surprise- you can actually be married and get your degree, even work, at the same time. It is NOT an either/or proposition. Bane robbed himself and his wife of five years of growing TOGETHER. His wife was completely cut off from him and a good support network. He had his family, his friends and navy "brothers" to support him. She had an abusive (dying) dad, an absentee mom and an aged aunt. Bane made the deliberate choice to separate completely from Crystal and he keeps repeating his mantra how it was necessary for her "growth." Balderdash. Love is wonderful. But it must be fed with good, solid communication to stay alive. And that is the truth.
Bane was a huge disappointment. I have been looking forward to this book coming out because I absolutely loved the character as he was described in other books in the Westmoreland series. After reading this book, I actually was surprised at how short it was and after finishing felt I read a book about nothing. The storyline although maybe good in concept just didn’t transfer to the page. At times I found myself even bored with the scenes as Bane and Crystal were on the run.
I really expected there would be more conflict in the end with the people who were after Crystal. I kept thinking they would catch her or kidnap her while he was in the shower at the hotel or something but there was no attempt made to do anything until the very end and even that was expected. The whole confrontation at the cabin fell short in my opinion because the criminals were apprehended too quickly.
There just was no action and never a chance for Bane to really live up to being the bad ass tough guy readers were anticipating. All of the action that did take place happened outside of the main characters being involved besides the cabin scene so the threat didn’t appear as chilling. It felt like Bane and Crystal went on a joyride to get reacquainted had a family reunion and ended with a happily ever after. There wasn’t enough conflict to make the storyline interesting enough and before you know it the book is over which is a sad way to end the series.
I am a big fan of Mrs. Jackson, I own all of her books but gosh I am so disappointed in Bane's story. I have waited years and expected more from bane he is a navy seal yet he doesn't do anything in this book there is no action at all. I hate for the Westmorland series to end like this it could have been much better.
