Tess Oliver has me hooked again! The story starts in mystery. Who is the the beaten and bloodied guy she found in the desert? There is no answer coming for that question. Evangeline or Angel as everyone calls her brings the man back to her grandfather's compound. This act of kindness could be the end to the man she names Reno. How much will he remember and when he does, how much will he tell Angel, her grandfather and his Bedlam MC brothers? This book ends on a cliffhanger but all the installments have been released. Thanks Tess Oliver for sharing your stories with us.
It's been a while since I read Freefall (loved it) and Clutch (liked it) by Tess Oliver, so I was really excited to see she wrote a biker romance (one of my fave genres). It started off with a bang...mysterious almost dead man is found in the desert by a beautiful young woman on a horse. They form an almost immediate connection and as she drags him into the "compound" where she lives, presumably to help save him from dying from his injuries, he is thrown into the dangerous and violent world of Bedlam MC and their crazy leader (her grandfather).
The man can't remember who he is or what happened to land him in the middle of nowhere beaten and bloodied, and so under her care, he slowly regains his memory and develops strong feelings for his rescuing "Angel". This short book ends in a cliffhanger after a pretty major reveal...as it is part of a series and will no doubt continue on with their love story as well as the job Luke (his real name) is supposed to be doing.
I really can't say more than that without spoiling his secret, but I did enjoy this different tale and the fact that for once it is about a woman who rescues a man (instead of the usual biker rescues girl story) and although she is kept as a captive to her life behind the gates of the compound, she is a tough cookie and a good match for Luke.
Violent, sexy, mysterious and intriguing start to a new series.

OH MY GOSH! This is an absolute don't miss book. My only complaint is its a series of 3 that could have been one nice long book that would have read well. If you get it for free its great, if you have to pay for it, do it. Its well worth the money. Picture finding a man near death in the desert while you're on a stroll out of the 'compound' that is controlled by your very demented grandfather and his cronies. Luke is left to die in the desert and is discovered by Angel. Luke can't remember why he's so battered, why he doesn't know who he is, how he came to be in the desert. Angel brings him to the compound where he is promptly pounded further into the ground at the behest of good ole granddad. As time goes on and he is allowed to live he and Angel develop strong feelings and act on them. Luke eventually remembers who he is and when reality strikes him, he doesn't tell Angel. The series is not stand alone, each is a cliff hanger. I willingly got two of them and will be getting the third book. Its a meaty story with love, passion, deception and violence. Not for the faint of heart necessarily with the brutality of the biker clubs. So if you aren't a scaredy cat, get this series and fall in love with Luke and Angel.
I was a bit hesitant going into Rain Shadow, because motorcycle club romances have been very hit or miss for me, and amnesia isn't really my thing. But I was very pleasantly surprised! Angel stumbles upon Luke in the middle of the desert, not far from her grandfather's compound. He doesn't remember anything about what happened to him, or even his name, so she knows she can't just leave him. But her grandfather has a strict no strangers policy. Angel brings Luke back anyway, not knowing just how much trouble he'll cause.

I really enjoyed Rain Shadow. I was immediately drawn into this mystery surrounding who Luke is, why he was tortured and left for dead in the Nevada desert. I also really liked Angel. She's smart and caring, and sick of her small, violent life on the compound. Luke gives her someone to care for and a hope for more. But Angel's grandfather's suspicions aren't unfounded. I had a theory, which was wrong, so I was shocked when that truth came out! I must know how Luke is going to handle this very, very dangerous situation!

Rain Shadow is definitely an enticing start to this series. It's got mystery, danger, and plenty of sexy times! I'm eager to find out what comes next for Luke and Angel!
I am unsure how this book got so many good reviews. The book premise made little sense. It started out promising until Evangeline and Luke reach the compound at the beginning of the book. Then the book becomes unrealistic and weird. How was Luke okay with being held prisoner by a biker gang that tortured him? Evangeline was very strange as well. Did not like it and would not read the remaining series.
Would rather have a fully realized novel than a novella, which is what this is except there is no ending. It just stops in the middle of the story line. For me, the story isn't gripping enough to read # 2. The ugly motorcycle compound and unromantic sex scenes don't float my boat.
