Duty a novel of Rhynan Rachel Rossano 9781482360110 Books

This book is simply amazing. The story is told in first person from the heroine's perspective, but it's done in a very different way from most first story narratives. You don't find Brielle giving her opinion or assumptions over and over as is the case of most first person stories. The author makes it very easy to forget the fact that it is first person. This book has a rhythm and a flow to it that will sweep you away and keep you floating in the engaging plot, the endearing romance, and the epic convictions of Duty that bring these characters together. It's got the sweetest romance while keeping it very clean at the same time. The author does a wonderful job of making her character's struggles come off the page and grip your heart. You don't just read this book; you find yourself investing in these people and rooting for their love, their convictions, and their outcome as Duty brings them together and love keeps them that way! Recommend this book and this author! Get it, read it; you won't regret it!

Duty a novel of Rhynan Rachel Rossano 9781482360110 Books Reviews

This story has all aspects of a medieval type romance in a fictional kingdom likeable characters, good storyline, decent writing style, villains, intrigue, chivalry, and clean romance.

The reason for 3 stars is that a few parts felt choppy, but not bad. Also, while both are attractive people (values as well as looks) I felt relationship development was a bit too fast; maybe choppy because necessity of war. It's hard to develop any real relationship when things are constantly being interrupted.

I would probably read more by this author.
This is truly one of my new favorite books! Rachel Rossano writes romance that is strong enough to leave the reader sighing with delight, but clean enough to make it guilt-free reading. She has become one of my favorite authors, along with K M Shea and Sarah Eden.

Note the only detractor I have with Rachel Rossano's books is that she does utilize one curse word frequently enough to notice (about twice per book). If this is a deal-breaker, please be aware. However, I have found her to have underlying Christian themes that are not really defined until you get to The King of Anavrea. The faith aspect makes her more trustworthy in my estimation. I truly enjoy her. Keep it up, Rachel!
This book tells the story of Brielle, a young noblewoman who is caught between the maneuverings of two rulers vying for power. Essentially forced into marriage with a nobleman named Tomas, she is required to navigate the unfamiliar waters of matrimony as well as the perils of court intrigue, especially when she is accused of treason and must prove her loyalty. This book merited 5 stars from me for several reasons.
1. This book is told in first person from Brielle's point of view. Normally, I am not a huge fan of first person POV, but this book drew me in and kept me there. Brielle's character is well-developed, and she is a likeable and realistic heroine.
2. The pacing of the romance in this book is excellent. This can be a difficult line to walk. In some books, it seems like the H and h are madly professing love to each other after five pages. Not realistic and anti-climactic. In other books, it seems as if you are 3/4ths through, and they haven't had a meaningful conversation. Makes you want to skip pages. Rachel Rossano bridges this very well. The relationship between Brielle and Tomas progresses perfectly.
3. A true test of a good book for me is whether or not I will revisit it. This book stays permanently downloaded in my kindle, and I have already reread it several times.
A great read!
When I first saw "Duty" by Rachel Rossano, I completely fell in love with the cover. When I read the synopsis I was a little hesitant to go ahead and get it for my . The slightly cynical side of me thought it would probably turn out to be the story of a medieval maiden forced to marry a rough, semi-barbaric man. I didn't feel like reading something like that at the time.

Let me tell you... I misjudged it.

Brielle is no doormat who is reluctantly and sighingly doing her "duty." Yes, she is married off to a man she's never met. But Tomas is no barbarian. He is actually a fabulous character in general and a more considerate, caring, loving husband than many women pick out for themselves these days! The way that they grow together over the course of the book is very, very sweet.

Because the characters are married there is a good amount of heady kissing and it's implied that things get intimate after the close of more than one chapter. It's completely appropriate, but I would recommend it for later high-school and adults.

I truly enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to getting my hands on more of Mrs. Rossano's work. The story was every bit as beautiful as the cover after all! Hooray!
Duty is an adventurous fantasy story with danger, adventure, and romance. From the very first page I found myself drawn into this world, cheering for Brielle in the difficult circumstances in which she finds herself. What I liked most about this book was the level of description. All the senses are engages as you hear the sounds, see the sights, and smell the smells of Rhynan. And while this is a fantasy book set in a well-developed world, it does not include any of the magic elements that can be controversial for some readers.

The plot, the characters, and the setting were great. There were only a few minor things that I did not like about this novel. The main issue is that, with so many characters, it is hard to keep track of them - especially as the characters travel a lot and separate into different groups. Also, at the very beginning I wondered what direction the story was headed. (The book begins with the main character discovering that her hand has been given in marriage to a man she has never met, so you can imagine where that could go...) Thankfully, the author is careful in her descriptions and "fades to black" at the appropriate moments.

If you are looking for a new fantasy read with adventure and romance, Duty is a great beginning. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
