Luck of the Draw Chance of a Lifetime Book 2 eBook Kate Clayborn

A fake engagement plot set (partially) at a summer camp facility? I think this book may have been written just for me!

Kate Clayborn made me feel ALL THE FEELZ with this installment in her Chance of a Lifetime series. As I shared on Twitter, I was a puffy-eyed, tear-soaked snot monster after this book wrecked me in all the best possible ways. Zoe and Aiden each have emotional baggage that needs some serious unpacking and both are seeking purpose/direction in their adult lives. There are no ridiculous misunderstandings that cause issues with their burgeoning relationship. They are simply two people undergoing some pretty profound growth. They do not do so in a vacuum. Throughout the story they are surrounded by friends, family, and/or co-workers who impact their progress.

I loved everything about this book (which can be read as a standalone).

Luck of the Draw Chance of a Lifetime Book 2 eBook Kate Clayborn Reviews

This was a fascinating romance, with a heroine unlike any character I've read before. She was really her own thing, defying type, and I enjoyed getting to know her more and more throughout the book. This author is a new fave for me with the depth of her detail work and characterization, and I cannot WAIT for the next book in this series. 4.5 stars
Really tried to finish this book. I understand the pain of loss (husband and parents) and the hard task of working through the emotional baggage. But, the ugliness in the depth of profanity is beyond me. I'm guessing life turns out better for Aiden and Zoe.
3 stars. I liked it a TAD bit less than the first one, because the characters felt a little more stereotypical in this one, and the set up a little less grounded. This book follows Zoe, so we continue to have the lovely friendship as a backdrop. I liked the sexual tension between Zoe and Aiden, and I like how Zoe developed throughout the book. It was fun read, and a fun few hours, but I personally preferred the first one. (And no you don’t have to read the first one first, although might make a little more sense if you do.)
I wasn't sure I would adore this second book in the trilogy as much as the first, but it floored me! Such beautiful writing and heartache. Zoe and Aiden , well they are both so full of grief they have never dealt with/don't know how to deal with for things in their past and I really just wanted to wrap them both up in a hug and say, "It wasn't your fault." But it was way more fun to watch Kate Clayborn throw them together, make their lives messy and have them teach this to each other. The voice and the writing in her books sucks me in immediately and she pulls out all the emotions from me, I hurt for both of her characters and I love them both. Aiden is a bit of a grumpy grump at first, but really inside he's a big softy with a broken heart. And Zoe, well, I love how she thinks she needs to atone for all of her sins and lets Aiden grump at her at first, but then her backbone comes back and she sticks up for herself.
I spent NYE reading the first book on this list and it carried me through the first couple hours of the New Year and I loved it so, so much. Luck of the Draw might just be better than Beginner's Luck? I really love the heroine, Zoe, who is a lawyer who feels like she needs to atone for the choices she made as a lawyer. She beats herself up and is afraid to let people in, I think, and kind of reminded me a little of Jasmine from Wanna Bet? by Talia Hibbert, which was another of my favorites from last year. There's something about heroines like this that speak to my soul right now and I just need to wrap myself in bubble wrap and read all of these books so I can feel like being a bit of a mess will totally work out. Oh, and the hero is pretty great too. Did I even mention that this is a fake relationship trope? Trust me on this one and try out this series!
I finished this aeons ago but like, every time I tried to say something about this book, I just couldn't find the words. But like, I thought Beginner's Luck was great (haven't reviewed that one for the same reason; Lisa pls)??? but Kate completely outdid herself with this one. Luck of the Draw is by far the best book I've read this year, and I wish I could eloquently express my feelings about it, but since I couldn't, I'll just leave her with this I LOVE IT. I love both Zoe and Aiden as individual characters and together as a couple. I felt so much for them. I love how grief and guilt were incorporated and dealt with in the story. Was totally invested in Zoe and Aiden's fake relationship thing, and again when the lines were crossed and fake turned real. The epilogue was magical and wrapped up the story so neatly.

I have nothing else to say, Your Honor.
I read and loved Kate Clayborn's debut novel Beginner's Luck earlier this year. I one clicked Luck of the Draw right after and started to read it, but had to stop because I knew it was different in tone and feel to her earlier book, and that I'd have to be in the right mood to read it. I picked it up recently because I wanted to squeeze in a few more good reads before the year ends, and I made an excellent choice because Luck of the Draw has now been included in my best of 2018 list.

This book is SO GOOD! Hit me right in the feels. It has the best kind of emotionally charged, slow burn romance. The type that makes you ache for the characters. At the start of the story, there's so much anger, grief and guilt between Zoe and Aiden that I wasn't sure how they'll be able to work things out and fall in love. But they managed beautifully. This is one of those books where I wanted to hug the main characters and tell them everything will be okay. It is a sweet and tender romance between two flawed characters, written with such a deft hand that balanced despair and hope perfectly. I also really loved the themes of friendship and family (both biological and found) throughout the book. Plus it has one of the best grovel scenes ever. I've become a huge fan of Kate Clayborn's writing and will be devouring Best of Luck as soon as I can. I highly recommend her books for all romance fans!
