Silver A Bandia Novel Talia Vance Books

This was one of the most amazing books that I've read - EVER, seriously I mean it, and I believe it's my new number 1 all-time favorite...I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's premise involves Irish mythology, more specifically the Bandia (which our protagonist, Brianna, finds out is what she is - Bandia defined simply (without looking it up!) means extraordinarily beautiful warrior; descendant of Danu, the original Bandia. They possess great powers- the ability to control earth, wind, fire, & water. THE most powerful Bandia are born every 7th generation, as is Brianna. These powers, which are directly connected to her emotions, prove to be extremely difficult to rein in.

Killian, the object of Danu's unrequited love, and his descendants (especially 7th generation which, guess what? That's right, Brianna's love interest, Blake, of course is!) have sworn to rid the earth of all Bandia, which they consider to be beautiful, but cold and ruthless killers responsible for a curse brought down on the Killian family thousands of years ago.

Because of this threat, Brianna is required, as are all Bandia, to keep her identity a secret by masking her stunning beauty until her 17th birthday. She unknowingly shields her beauty by wearing a bracelet fashioned for her by her very Irish and very superstitious grandmother after she witnessed signs of Brianna's extraordinary power when she was far too young to be exhibiting such behavior. Her grandmother died shortly thereafter, leaving Brianna's multitude of eventual questions unanswered.

All of these years, from when she was a young girl until just before her 17th birthday, Brianna felt literally invisible where boys were concerned; they actually looked right through her everytime any of them would glance her way. Always failing to linger on her for more than a second, they would undoubtedly shift focus to her stunningly gorgeous best friend, Haley. But someone finally DOES notice her- Blake - at a party when all mysteriously goes still after Brianna loses her bracelet.

So, how to keep oneself hidden from the enemy when the very person to tell you who and what you are is,in fact, the enemy, himself a 7th generation Killian? Oh yes and I almost failed to mention that science geek Brianna has had a gigantic crush on Blake for years....this book is just-WOW WOW WOW! I'm in LOVE with it. Now I get to look forward to the torture of waiting until the fall of this year for "Gold", the sequel. SO SAD!!

Silver A Bandia Novel Talia Vance Books Reviews

There are so many books out there about the same stuff. So imagine my surprise when I start reading Silver and it's about mythology instead of the normal vampires and werewolves. Not that I have anything against vampires and werewolves. But the story was refreshing! I loved all of the characters and their emotions leaped off the page and I felt them right along with them. Very well written! The second book in the series can not get here quick enough!!
Very interesting premise, I like the Irish mythology, and I like how it's all placed in a real world setting teens can relate to. I thought the history and the background were very developed, and wonder where it will go in the next book. I would like to see more variance in the characters, the guys are all hot, and jerky, except for Joe, who I'd like to see more of. I heard that there are no plans for a third book, which is a bummer, but I still want to read the second book!
This is a fun fast read but I was shocked when I saw it was recommended for 12 and up. Due to the sex/sexual tension in the book I personally would recommend that a parent reads this book before purchasing for their teen. Just like PG-13 movies we as parents need to monitor what our kids read and watch not every kid is mature enough for sex throughout the book.

I will get off my soap box now... I enjoyed the mythology and the fast pace of the story line. I really liked the main character Brianna she is not a whimp which I find refreshing. Nothing worse than a damsel in distress.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about this one.

When I say it was good (3 stars), I mean that Talia Vance is a good author. Her story certainly was action-packed, but the author kept me in the dark about the reasons for everything happening until about the last 3 chapters or so. For 43 chapters, I thought "What the hell is the point of all this?" To be honest, I almost stopped reading.

I'm glad I hung in there until the end, but it was damn frustrating to get there.

I'm not going to not recommend this book, but I wouldn't recommend paying $7.69 for the edition. I was lucky in that I got it on a holiday special for much less. It is lendable, so I would recommend trying the series out that way if you can.
From the start you're supposed to believe that the main character is madly in love with a boy who has never spoken to her, and who doesn't notice her until she loses her silver charm bracelet. It was a really frustrating novel because it had so many opportunities to move past the forced love story - and I never really got to know this boy who she loves. He annoyed me most of the book, was never really fleshed out, and I found myself liking the 'bad' guy until the end when he shows how bad he really is (but he was so much more interesting!!!).

It was just frustrating and I wanted to fall in love with the story and just couldn't.
